He knows how to Google, and how to YouTube. He can research items on the internet, and find new games to download with no issue. These are all of the things I know he is doing.
The question is, if he’s able to do all of that, what’s to stop him from getting into inappropriate content? How can I monitor his activities and make sure he’s only going to the sites he should be going to?

Is it right for me to snoop on my kids?
It’s easy to want to know everything your child is doing. That’s what happens when you’re a parent, you always want to protect your children. But is using a parental control app like Qustodio going too far?
I’m no child expert, but I approach it the same way I approach anything else with my child. I try to give him the space to make his own mistakes.
As I shared in the beginning, we use Qustodio on our devices. We haven’t blocked our Son from any apps or websites, he is free to go to any site he pleases.
So, if we aren’t controlling where he goes when he’s online, what do we use it for?
There’s actually two great benefits we get out of the Qustodio software.
We set daily limits for his device usage
We did this before, but it was a pain to track. If I was trying to catch up on work, I’d lose track of time, and next thing I’d know he had been on the iPad for an hour longer than he was supposed to. This happenned all the time.
Now, we have a setting in Qustodio that does this for us. Doesn’t matter which device he’s on, once he hits that time limit, he’s done.
If I tell him to shut it down, I might have to fight with him for ten minutes before he does it. But now that Qustodio does it for me, it’s quick and painless.
We monitor his web activity
The other big use we get out of Qustodio is we do monitor his activity. Not all the time, and not everything he does, but more on a random basis. He’s at the age where he’s pretty good about not getting into inappropriate content, so there’s usually not too much for me to worry about when I do check.
But here’s where things get a little gray. Sometimes he views content that is a little above his age. I cringe, but I don’t question him on it.
He’s barreling towards the teen years at full speed, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. I can’t stop him from being exposed to every little thing. If I stop it from happening online, he’s probably going to see it or hear it at school anyways.
If I see him download or view something that is truly not acceptable for a kid his age, I’ll address it. But I’m not going to pick battles over every little thing.
The bottom line is that Qustodio allows me to control things just enough that I feel comfortable, without over-protecting my child.
I recommend it
We’ve been using Qustodio for several months now. I feel like we started at the right time, because we are all used to it now. It’s much better than waiting until the teenage years or until something bad happens to do this.
As a parent, you should take steps to monitor and control your child’s internet usage. Qustodio is the best option available to do this.
