I hope you aren’t working too hard on this three-day holiday weekend.  And is that extra day really for us?!  No, it’s just an extra day for catching up on everything, right?

At least that’s the way it seems to be for me on many of these long weekends.

Or…..maybe it’s actually an extra day that’s meant so we can leave the daily minutia behind, and take the family for a trip out of town.  Nothing like a three-day weekend to take the family camping, visit the cousins, or go to the beach.

These short trips can be just like mini-vacations.  Lots of eating out instead of cooking.  Lots of sleeping in hotels or guest bedrooms. Lots of time doing things that aren’t housework. They’re good for the soul.

Now, if you really want to take it up a notch, you dump the kids and make it just you and the spouse.

That is exactly what I am doing!

This weekend, the husband and I are heading south- down to Miami, child-less!  It’s a belated celebration of our 15-year anniversary. It was actually several weeks ago, but it got kind of buried behind things like Mother’s Day and Basketball, and other activities. That’s what happens when you’re a parent.

But we planned it out so there would be a celebration, even if it had to wait awhile. And the time has come. This weekend I will be working hard, but at finally being one of those people that I envy.  That can get away and steal a romantic trip for two again.

And next week, I will be back, refreshed and better than ever. Well, I will be back anyways.

How about you?  Have you and the spouse ever jetted off for a weekend without the kids?  What did you do?  How was it?  Tell me about it.

In the meantime, make sure you check out our Instagram for some cool Miami pics: @WorkingMomX.

  1. Awesomeness!! That’s so great and well deserved! I hope that you all have a great time and I hope the road trip is nothing but bliss! Fingers crossed that traffic works with you instead of against you!! Happy late anniversary!!! 15 years is something to be very proud of. Especially these days! Lol. Have a great weekend!

    1. Oh an my hubby and I have only taken one little getaway. It was for his birthday a couple years back. We went to Kings Island amusement park. We went up for an evening and stayed in a hotel, and the next day spent the whole day at the park with our speed passes and drove home that evening. We were more exhausted when we got home than when we left but still had a blast!

    2. Thank you, Brittany! Yes, very lucky we took the time to go on this trip. All working moms deserve a getaway!

  2. Wow, that’s terrific that you’re celebrating your anniversary like that!

My husband and I do a date night occasionally, but it’s usually just a dinner out. We’ve never left the kids behind to go out of town before. I don’t know if I could do it.

    1. I remember the first time we did it when he was an infant. And I also remembee the first overnight, and his first sleepover with friends.
It gets easier and its important to get away and fun. You can do it!
