If you’ve been following my progress against my 2019 fitness goals, you know I am planning on running a couple 5k’s this year to help keep me motivated.
The first of these will be the Gasparilla Distance Classic February 23rd-24th.
I ran the Gasparilla Half-Marathon in 2016, which was the last race I ran until late last year. They’ve got several races going on this weekend, with the shorter ones, including the 5k, on Saturday, and the longer ones on Sunday. I’ll be running the 5k this year.
The Gasparilla Distance Classic utlizes street courses that run along Bayshore Blvd in Tampa. This is one of the more scenic courses I’ve ever run, with the Bay on one side, and the historic neiborhood of Hyde Park on the other. And Bayshore is a wide boulevard with plenty of room for runners.
As you can imagine, there are a lot of people that sign up for this one. Tampa, in mid-February, what more could you ask for? The race fills up quickly, so if you’re thinking of running, you need to sign up as soon as possible.
If you’re just getting started in running, a 5k is a great first race to run in. It’s a relatively short one, and a lot less intimidating than a half-marathon. You can get prepared for something like this in just a couple weeks, so there’s plenty of time to train.
I’d love to have you come run this with me. Whether you’re an experienced runner, or just starting out, come enjoy the beatiful Florida weather and the Tampa Bay scenery.
